This must be a proud moment for Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan. Their daughter Suhana Khan, who is 18 and gives all indication of wanting to not just follow in her father’s gigantic footsteps, but overshadow him in Bollywood, has made it to the cover of Vogue’s August issue.
Of her wanting to become an actress, Suhana tells Vogue that there was no one moment when she became dead certain about her future career. But since she was young, she’d do all these accents and impressions at home. “My parents only realized I was serious about acting when they saw a performance of mine for the first time,” Suhana reveals.

She was playing the naive, innocent and charming Miranda who stands up for herself when needed in The Tempest by Shakespeare at school. SRK had told us somewhat wistfully that when Suhana was rehearsing at home, he had got up to show her how acting was done, but the spirited girl had hastily shot down the veteran father’s method and gone with her own acting style.
The Vogue interview, being Suhana’s first, apparently saw Shah Rukh making an unannounced appearance while it was happening after telling the media house “to pretend” he wasn’t there because he wanted to “hang out with Suhana”. While she talked, he massaged his daughter’s aching feet while chiding her, “I told you those shoes were nonsense.”
Years ago, when they were little, it was the other way round. Explaining the difference between sons and daughters, and the love his son Aryan and daughter Suhana had for him respectively, SRK had told us exclusively, “When I come home tired after a hard day’s shoot, Aryan will press my head for a few minutes. I know it’s naam ka vastey. Then he’s gone. But my daughter will massage my feet until I tell her to stop.” Guess it’s payback time.
