After 2015's hit film Dilwale, Kajol is all set to return to the big screen as the titular character in Pradeep Sarkar directorial Helicopter Eela, adapted from Anand Gandhi's Gujarati play Beta Kaagdo. The film also features Tota Roy Chowdhary and national award-winning actor Riddhi Sen. Written by Mitesh Shah, Helicopter Eela will see Kajol playing a single mother and an aspiring singer. Now as promised, the makers have unveiled the trailer of the much-anticipated film on Kajol's 44th birthday today.
The trailer showcases Kajol as a free-spirited yet protective mother who joins college to complete her degree and spend more time with her teenage son. Her decision leads to a round of tantrums by her son and the way it changes Eela for the good forms the crux of the trailer. Take a look:

The two-and-a-half-minute clip also focuses on how Kajol invades the privacy of her son, which inevitably creates a rift between the mother and son duo. Vivaan (Riddhi Sen) finally gets fed up of her mother's intrusiveness and wishes to break away from the "suffocation”.

The trailer further moves on to show that Kajol's character (Eela) used to write, sing and star in music videos before having a child. Now with a distant relationship with her son, will the single mother find her calling once again and pursue what she left unfinished? To know the answer, you will have to watch the film. Nonetheless, the trailer is an interesting take on the concept of parenting and the generation gap.
Helicopter Eela also features Neha Dhupia as Kajol's trusted confidant-cum-guide, quite similar to her roles in Tumhari Sulu and Netflix's Lust Stories. The movie is co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Jayantilal Gada of Pen India Ltd. It is slated to release on September 7.
