I cannot become pro, but will try my best: Shraddha Kapoor on Saina Nehwal biopic

Shraddha Kapoor is all geared up for the release of her horror-comedy film Stree that also stars Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Bannerjee in the lead. The film will release on August 31. During a candid interaction, Shraddha spoke about her much-anticipated film, the badminton biopic on Saina Nehwal for which she will start shooting from next month. However, she did give very valid reasons why the biopic is delayed.

During the interview, Shraddha was asked whether she is still a part of the biopic or not and the Stree actress did not miss a beat by telling that she is definitely doing the film and the film goes on floors from next month. However, Shraddha was honest enough to accept the fact that she is not well-versed with the game of Badminton and it takes a helluva lot of preparation and practice to essay the role of an ace shuttler like Saina onscreen and that is why the film is taking time.

Talking about the responsibility of playing Saina onscreen Shraddha said, “I am also saying that I am not ready right now as well, and I will still take more time. That is why we are shooting the non-badminton scenes from the next month and the badminton portions will be shot when I am ready. I think that’s the only way to do it because it’s a very big responsibility in my hands that I should try to play as well as I can. Of course, I cannot become a pro in one year, it’s not possible, but I would try my best to be as good as the shots demand. So that’s what I am working on and we will get there. As long as it takes I am going to be training for it.”

Shraddha’s stance is applause-worthy especially because Saina is India’s best shuttler who has brought laurels to the country. She won the gold medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and is the first Indian badminton player to have won an Olympic medal, along with being the only Indian to have won the BWF World Junior Championships. In 2016 the Government of India awarded her the Padma Bhushan- India's third highest civilian award. She is also the recipient of nation's top two sporting honours, namely the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Arjuna Award.
