The NT Rama Rao biopic is keeping everyone excited ever since it was announced. The Krish directed venture traces the journey of one of the most prolific and well-loved chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh. The film stars Vidya Balan as NTR’s wife Basavatarakam, Rana Daggubati is playing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Nadamuri Balakrishna, NTR’s sixth son will be essaying the role of his father in the biopic. Now, the latest buzz is that Rakul Preet Singh has been zeroed down to play the role of legendary actress late Sridevi who frequently starred alongside NTR in his films.
Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor were also in the reckoning for the role but a leading daily reported that Rakul has been finalized. The part is a small one but Rakul is said to be keen on playing Sridevi. The leading daily reported, “Even though it is a small part in the biopic, Rakul is keen to play Sridevi. The makers have been in talks with her for long. Although Rakul has agreed to do the film in principle, she first needs to inform the producers of her other movies about this development. She will have to reshuffle her dates to accommodate the biopic before she can make a formal announcement about it."

Sridevi and NTR starred in 14 films together and supposedly Rao was instrumental in building up the actress’s career. Producer Vishnu Induri negated the fact that they were thinking of Sonakshi, Kangana Ranaut or Shraddha for the role.
Apparently, Rakul’s spokesperson confirmed her association with the film and said, “Rakul would love to do the role as she's a big Sridevi fan. But she hasn't discussed the details of the film yet with the team, as she's busy shooting for four films. She needs to figure out her dates for the biopic."
He told the daily, “We haven't approached Sonakshi, Kangana or Shraddha. Rakul Preet Singh is our only choice as she's popular in the South, especially in Telugu films. We have shot almost 30 percent of the movie; Vidya has already shot for six days. We are working on Rakul's dates for now.”
