It was in boarding school that I first began writing morbid poems: Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna aka Mrs Funnybones might have been born to superb actor parents but after a stint in Bollywood that comprised of working in only 14 films, she bid the tinsel town adieu to concentrate on interior designing and writing. Now, after writing newspaper columns for five years and publishing three books, Twinkle is well-known as a master wordsmith and loved for her funny and sarcastic writing style. She recently graced the August cover of ELLE India magazine and in every stunning photograph of hers uploaded on Instagram she has shared some gems of wisdom about writing.

Twinkle revealed that it was in the boarding school that she first started writing poems, albeit little morbid ones. Apparently, as per the actress turned author's mother Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle’s first poem was about mangoes but the writer-actress believes it to be on maggots.

It is a common advice given to a writer that one should write every day and that is what Twinkle also believes in. Twinkle manages to surprise everyone with the armour of wit that she wields. Her comebacks and one-liners usually make even her Bollywood friends like Karan Johar and Aamir Khan keep mum, not to say that her husband Akshay Kumar rarely gets a one-up in any banter of theirs.

Speaking about juggling many things at once, Twinkle maintains that she is not a superwoman but just an ordinary woman who is adept at juggling many balls at the same time and picking up the ones she drops while there is still time.

Other than writing, being a mother to her two children – son Aarav and daughter Nitara, Twinkle also manages a successful interior designing business and has dappled into film production as well with her maiden venture being the critically acclaimed and box office super hit PadMan that featured her husband Akshay, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in lead roles. The film was based on a short story from her book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad which was in turn based on the real story of Arunachalam Muruganantham.
