Don't think today directors or actors go into the soul of the character: Sunny Deol's take on biopics

After the huge success of Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju, the trend of biopics has come back. Every director now wants to put their hands on biopics and follow a real-life story. Akshay Kumar was recently asked about the same and he didn't seem very keen about it. Sunny Deol who's currently busy promoting his upcoming film Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se with father Dharmendra and brother Bobby Deol was also asked about the same trend.

When asked if Sunny would want a biopic on himself the actor said, "Not really. I am not much into it unless and until it is made in a very realistic form if there is something to it and not just because it is a trend, just because biopic chal raha hai toh karlo. The funda of biopics is very different now."

Sunny has been known as an action hero for the majority part of his career despite doing romantic films. "Because somehow no one else seems to be fitting there except me. Somehow that image has stuck with me because people tend to believe I do that," quipped Sr Deol on being typecast in a certain image.

"But, I don't get bothered so much about the image so much. I wish I was born in an era when my dad was there because then you could do this kind of films and another kind of cinema too which is what is lacking. He (Dharmendra) did Chupke Chupke, Bandini and other films because there were subjects there. There is the story that gives the actor the capability to create an image. Without it, you cannot," added the macho man of Indian cinema.
"Look Hollywood, Tom Hanks in Sully, look at the way he gets indulged in the character. We don't get to play such characters and even if we do, say like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, for me, you don't get into the character of Milkha. We are more interested in making the body, we are more interested in what the camera work is going to be but we don't get into the essence of the character. I don't think today the directors or actors go into the soul of the character," Sunny expressed his concern.
Notably, Sunny thinks it is a good idea to make a film about his father Dharmendra if only he can get a good writer and director to helm the project. "It cannot be random. There should be a writer who would invest time on it. It is not going to be that easy because my father will be involved in it. Since everyone knows everything about him, it must be put out in a nice way. The research will not be a problem, because my father is there to share the story," added Sunny, before signing off.
