The Kapoor family is thoroughly disturbed about the sale of RK Studio, founded by legendary actor- producer Raj Kapoor. His son Randhir Kapoor, while speaking about it with a leading website, said that actors do not prefer shooting at the celebrated studio but would rather opt for Film City.
“With the state of the roads and traffic today, no actor comes to Chembur to shoot in this studio. They would rather go to Film City. So, with a very heavy heart, we have decided to let it go. My whole family is very sad, but there’s no other way,” he told the website.

Earlier this week, Randhir Kapoor’s brother Rishi confirmed that RK Studio had been put up on sale after his family realised that the plan of renovating it from its deteriorating condition is futile.
In September 2017, a fire broke out at a portion of the studio – on the set of the television show Super Dancer. Although no casualties were reported, but the fire resulted in the loss of “irreplaceable memorabilia and costumes of all RK Films”, as tweeted by Rishi Kapoor after the incident.
Randhir reiterated his brother’s words and said: “It’s even more an emotional loss than monetary loss. We have lost the entire memorabilia of Raj Kapoor. Whatever Raj Kapoor had built has been burnt down.”
Randhir Kapoor’s daughter Kareena Kapoor Khan also spoke about it on the sidelines of the Lakme Fashion Week, where she was the showstopper for the finale show. “I think it’s probably something that the family has decided, so it’s upto my fathers, his brothers and up to them… If that’s what they have decided, so be it,” she had said.
The R. K. Studio is located in Mumbai’s Chembur and was built by Raj Kapoor almost 70 years ago. Films including Jis Desh Me Ganga Behti Hain (1960), Mera Naam Joker (1970) and Bobby (1973) have been shot at the studio as well.
