Sunny Deol on new roles not being offered: Unfortunately, that's the industry we are in

Sunny Deol was one of Bollywood's reigning actors in the 90's but his recent films failed to impress the critics and the audience alike. Both Ghayal Once Again (2016) and Poster Boys (2017), the films did poor business at the box office but that did not deter the actor from bouncing back to the silver screen once again.

The actor is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se with father Dharmendra and brother Bobby Deol. When asked what kind of scripts he's looking for at this stage in his career, he quipped that he is always looking for good scripts and directors to work with, however, he is not offered the same!

Sunny has been known as an action hero for the majority part of his career despite doing romantic films (Betaab, Jeet, Dillagi) and he believes that over time, he has been trapped into one specific avatar that of an action hero. In fact, only recently, when Dharmendra was asked about featuring in fewer films over the years, the veteran actor expressed his disappointment that no roles were being written for someone his age. He added that it is sad that he's been 'typecast' into playing only roles of a father and nothing beyond.

When Sunny was prodded if he agrees with his father's viewpoint, he admitted to the same and shared, "That is the reality. For example, when I came into the industry, there were no directors kept for the youngsters. They were making films with the big stars. So that is how the industry works and unfortunately, that the industry we are in. We have to accept it and move along with it by trying to find a path to get something that is satisfying."

"I have done romantic films like Gadar - for me, it is a romantic setup, a man who fights the odds to get back to his wife and son. Unfortunately, everyone termed that performance into an action, patriotic role. And that tag of dhai-killo-ka-haath and action star has become synonymous to me," added Sr. Deol.

Apart from Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, Sunny is also helming Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, which marks the Bollywood debut of his son, Karan Deol.
