Aamir Khan’s Dangal made me cry; Ranveer is a fine actor: Dharmendra showers praise on Gen X

It would be safe to assert that Dharmendra is a master of multiple genres considering the fact that the veteran actor has put up a brilliant show onscreen – irrespective of starring in action, comedy or romance since his tenure in the film industry – over five decades to be precise. His era, Dharmendra maintained, is different from that of the current generation and speaking of the films that are made at present, he rightfully approved of them during an interaction with us ahead of the release of his new film Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se.

In fact, Dharmendra picked his favourites (of sorts) from Gen X as well. “Movies of this generation are very good. Ranbir is good. Ranveer Singh is a fine actor. I gave a salute to him when he walked into the sand with his sword in Bajirao Mastani," shared the veteran.

Asked about a recent film that he liked, Dharmendra said, “I watched Dangal. I couldn’t watch in the theatre. But I watched it on my laptop and I cried. When the younger sister watches her...and says that you aren’t respecting your father…it touches.”

Aamir Khan, please note. Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, released in 2016 and fared exceptionally well at the box-office apart from being appraised by critics. It cast Aamir as Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trains his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat into wrestling.

Praising the films that are made in the current decade, Dharmendra said, “They are making very good films. During our time, predictable stuff worked. It depends on the audience. Whatever the audience likes, films are releasing accordingly.”

Dharmendra's Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se starring his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol has released today.
