Had to learn new dialect, tailoring and body language: Rajkummar Rao on his role in Stree

Rajkummar Rao’s horror-comedy Stree released today and has already got a thumbs up from the audience. Rajkummar’s tailor act and his impeccable comic timing in the film is making everyone laugh-out-loud. In a chat with PeepingMoon.com, Rajkummar spoke about the challenges he faced playing a local man from Madhya Pradesh and spilled the beans on what went on the sets of Stree.

Rajkummar plays a tailor called Vicky in the film Stree who employs his tailoring skills to stitch ladies garments for the entire men folk of the town. The role was challenging and the actor learned it the hard way. Talking about his character and the requirements of the role, he said, “Vicky is somebody who belongs to Madhya Pradesh and I had never played a character that is from MP before. So I had to learn a new language, I had to learn tailoring- the art of being a tailor and also the body language it’s a different energy about this character.”

Rajkummar who has reaped accolades for his acting skills and has numerous awards including a National Award under his belt further added, “I feel as an actor it’s my responsibility to bring in something into my characters and to offer something new to my audience as well. And if I see there is any scope in those characters where I need to put in some different element I do that. I did that with Newton, I used that blinking thing and those curls in my hair. So if there is a scope in the story and in the film I tend to improvise, I tend to bring something new to that character. And also the credit goes to the writers; they are the ones writing such exciting parts.”

Talking about Stree, Raj asserted that the film is a "unique combination of horror-comedy, most of it is fun and part of it is scary and it’s generally scary." Apparently, Rajkummar also agreed that the genre is not easy to attempt and even went on to reveal that the last horror-comedy that he liked was Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa directed by Priyadarshan.
