If you loved Shraddha Kapoor’s and Rajkummar Rao’s new film Stree, chances are that this update will make you super happy. The film has been received well by not just fans but critics as well; and producer Dinesh Vijan, who bankrolled the Amar Kaushik-directed project with filmmakers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, couldn’t ask for more.
In an interview with a leading daily, hence, Dinesh confirmed that a sequel to Stree will be made for sure – especially because it has been written as a franchise. We don’t mean to provide spoilers here but the film concludes with an “open ending” on a deliberate note since the makers plan to plot Stree 2 from that specific point.
“The film's last two shots actually set up the sequel. When you watch the movie, you will understand that we intentionally had an open ending. Stree 2 will start off from there and explain those shots. We have written it as a franchise, so there will be a sequel. We are happy that the confidence in the content has paid off,” Dinesh told the leading daily adding that the sequel will essentially highlight Shraddha’s character’s story.
The cast will be retained, Dinesh said apart from the fact that new members will be added as well. "Along with Shraddha's backstory, a few other pertinent questions will be answered in the second instalment. The cast will be retained, but there will be new inclusions too. Predominantly, it will still be driven by Raj and Shraddha's characters,” Dinesh added.
Stree 2 is expected to begin filming by 2019 and “hopefully, in two years, we will be ready with it,” he added.
Stree has been faring pretty well at the box-office since its release. On its second day, the film earned Rs 10.87 crore while its opening day collections amounted to Rs 6.82 crore. Stree’s total earnings, so far, stand at Rs 17.69 crore.
