After winning accolades around the globe, Tabrez Noorani's directorial debut Love Sonia is all set to release in India on September 14, 2018. The film explores the harsh realities of the human trafficking world and traces the journey of a 17-year-old girl who risks her life to rescue her sister from a vicious human trafficking network. After the hard-hitting character posters and trailer of the film, the makers have now released a video which showcases how Rajkummar Rao's character (Manish) tries his best to help Mrunal Thakur (Sonia) get out from the flesh trade.
The video starts with Manish meeting Madhuri (played by Richa Chadha) at the entrance of the brothel. He poses as a customer and tells her that he wishes to meet Sonia and once he gets to meet her, Manish reveals it to her that he is there to rescue her instead. The scene then moves to Manish thronging the brothel with policemen but faces the villain Faizal (played by Manoj Bajpayee), who slaps him and questions his audacity to enter his world.
What happens to Sonia and if she gets rescued or not, still remains to be seen. Meanwhile, there's a nuanced subtlety in the way the first-time director has explored the harsh realities of the human trafficking world in the film. Talking about it, Tabrez had earlier said, "I don't think the audience has seen a movie at least in India about sex trafficking that has been this authentic. In a subject like this, the minute you show too much, you lose the audience, they are desensitised, they feel repelled, and that's why you have to cut and stop somewhere because their imagination is sometimes so dangerous that actually showing them visuals."
Love Sonia has an ensemble cast including Manoj, Richa, Rajkummar, Anupam Kher, Sai Tamhankar, Adil Hussain, Demi Moore, Mark Duplass with Freida Pinto, and introduces Mrunal and Riya Sisodiya.
