Stardom, glory and prominence – actors witness recognition with their relentless determination to impress fans through their films. The spotlight, thus, escalates actors to a level at which they achieve the power to inspire their followers with not just the characters that they portray on screen but off it as well. In this case, Akshay Kumar is the best possible example.

The actor has not only floored his massive fan following with his extraordinary choice of films but is also considered as a people’s man for championing societal issues including women’s empowerment as well as the distraught condition of farmers in the country.

Akshay turned 51 today and what could be better than honouring him with this piece, in which we have listed the rationales that the actor has vehemently battled for in order to make the society into a tad better place.

May the Force Be With The Women

Akshay’s messages on empowerment of women and their safety is a constant factor on his social media accounts as he has forever espoused their rights and recognition. Apart from working in films, Akshay practices martial arts as well and has also taught self-defence to around 10,000 women for free in order to capacitate them. Needless to mention, Akshay strongly believes in self-reliance, but at a press conference, also mentioned that it isn’t necessary for women to learn martial arts solely because they shouldn’t live in fear – instead, should be able to lead their journey valiantly.

"I don’t think women should learn self-defence or martial arts because they should be free to walk anywhere, anytime, anyplace, all the time,” Akshay told a cheerful crowd. His words, in fact, act as a satisfactory dose of motivation. Don’t they?

Acknowledge Soldiers Because They Deserve It

The fact that soldiers fight for the country throughout their life is what Akshay has stressed upon every single time. It is because of brave hearts as such that citizens are entitled to their safety. Akshay, hence, has, forever acknowledged their selflessness and honoured them with respect and reverence.

Farmers Are The Lifeline

The plight of farmers in India is dismal and Akshay has done his bit to improve the situation. At a press conference, Akshay had said that India should focus on farmers while the authorities concerned should do their best to enhance their predicament. Three years ago, Akshay had met Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal to discuss the issues in the farming sector and rampant suicides. In 2017, in fact, Akshay donated Rs 50 lakh to a state-led initiative (Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyaan) introduced by the Maharashtra government in order to make villages drought-proof.

Swachh Bharat: Ek Prem Katha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2012 campaign introduced to propagate cleanliness in the country was adopted as the crux of Akshay’s 2012 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Apart from launching an ad campaign in aid of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Akshay also stressed on the importance of constructing toilets in rural areas in order to eradicate the practice of open defecation. Following his efforts, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced the appointment of Akshay as the brand ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Mission in the state.

Not Just PadMan, Akshay is India’s Superman

Among several other causes, Akshay also upheld the importance of sanitary hygiene. In PadMan, Akshay played Tamil Nadu social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, celebrated for introducing a machine that generated affordable sanitary napkins. Set in rural India, Muruganantham was appraised widely since he undertook the onus of reforming hygiene in the state. Akshay, thus, has perpetually expressed his concern for the condition of women in the society – not just limited to their safety but health as well.

Follow Traffic Rules Because Akshay is Watching

In August, Akshay signed up for a road safety campaign, Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha, in order to create awareness about the importance of following traffic rules. As part of the campaign, Akshay appeared in a series of hilarious videos, in which he dressed up as a traffic police and was seen reprimanding those violating guidelines on the street.

Akshay, thus, is not your typical Bollywood hero but an exemplary citizen of the country with a heart of gold. His fight for humanitarian concerns has not only enlightened fans but also made him a bona fide favourite as well. More is less, thus, if Akshay’s contribution towards the society is to be discussed because he is a legitimate example of a true living soul, who continues to inspire lesser mortals as such.

Happy Birthday, Akshay Kumar!
