Shree Narayan Singh's Batti Gul Meter Chalu (BGMC) was embroiled in controversy earlier this year when scriptwriter Vipul Rawal had filed a complaint against the makers for copyright infringement and unethical behavior. But now it looks like the long-drawn battle between Rawal and Singh is nowhere close to an end. Alleging that the director refused to credit him despite the orders of the Script Writers Association (SWA), we now hear that Rawal has decided to make a film based on the entire episode.
Revealing the same to a leading daily, he said, "I am thankful to Shree Narayan. It is because of him that I have come up with a fantastic script. The title of my film is Shree Narayan Ki Batti Gul; I have already zeroed in on the cast. We plan to roll soon. This is the best way to expose his wrongdoings."
For the unversed, Rawal had filed a complaint in May with the Film Writers Association (FWA) against Singh and writers Siddharth and Garima Rawal for not giving him due credit as one of the screenplay and dialogue writers for the film. The Script Writers Association (SWA) had then ordered that the credits be equally shared between Siddharth, Garima and him.
Rawal further talked about his fall-out with Singh and said, "I have a written copy from Bhushan Kumar (producer) that says that I will be given equal credit. We had agreed that the poster and trailer will run the credit as 'Based on a story by Vipul Rawal'. But Shree Narayan is creating issues. I wrote the screenplay and submitted the fifth draft to him", adding that Singh had only employed Siddharta and Garima to make the necessary amendments that he wanted in the script.
Singh, on the other hand, had earlier clarified his stance by saying that the team credited Rawal for the concept and the Siddharta and Garima for story and screenplay.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu, starring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam, is slated to release on September 21.
