Here’s why Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan is releasing a day after Diwali

The first motion poster of Thugs of Hindostan, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, released on Tuesday and apart from revealing his character Khudabaksh, also informed the new release date of the film. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Thugs of Hindostan casts Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh apart from Big B. The film was scheduled to release on November 7 as announced by the producers initially but will now hit screens a day later. Why? Because of Aamir, reports a leading daily.

Diwali, this year, will be celebrated on November 7 while trade sources told the daily that Aamir decided to postpone the release of the film by a day after the festival – November 8. His decision, as per the report, will ensure a grand opening for Thugs of Hindostan.

“Aamir knows the business very well and it was he who suggested to the team to release the movie a day after Diwali. He’s well aware that the footfalls in the theatres drop considerably in the evenings on account of Lakshmi Puja. So, he strongly recommended deferring the release by a day to make sure the film gets the bumper opening it’s expected to take,” a trade source was quoted as saying by the daily.

Meanwhile, Aamir introduced Big B’s character on Tuesday. The 75-year-old actor has been cast as a battle-hardened warrior in Thugs Of Hindostan. His character in the motion poster is set in the backdrop of a massive ship as Khudabaksh, its commander, prepares for war.

Thugs Of Hindostan is based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug.
