It’s a special day at Vishesh Films office as it’s not only veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s 70th birthday but it is also the day when the star cast of Bhatt’s upcoming film Sadak 2 have come together to shoot for their first picture together. Sadak 2 features Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Pooja Bhatt. After a long hiatus, Bhatt is also returning to direct the sequel to his 1991 superhit film Sadak that starred daughter Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt in the lead. He spoke about how it was Alia who motivated him to return to direction.
Sadak 2 is a special film because for the first time Bhatt will be directing his youngest daughter Alia who stars as the lead; she will also be sharing screen space with her eldest sister Pooja for the first time too. Sanjay who has worked with Bhatt in several films including his last directorial Kartoos that released in 1999 reunites with the director after 19 years. Aditya, on the other hand, returns to the banner that gave him his first solo hit Aashiqui 2 which catapulted his career on the fast track.
Bhatt told a leading daily, “As I step into the sunset years of my life, the last act, there’s something that has happened to me. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I will ever hear the words- a Mahesh Bhatt film-mentioned around me again. Alia used to say, ‘Papa, make a film’. And I would tell her that I am like an extinct volcano. But then, suddenly one day, the volcano was rumbling. You know, they say that autumn is another spring, so as I go into my autumn years, it’s the process of what is called decomposition or decay, that too is a way of life.”
Sadak remains Bhatt’s highest grossing film of his career and with this sequel and the star cast we’re sure that Sadak 2 will also prove to be a landmark film in the acclaimed filmmaker’s filmography. Sadak 2 is slated for November 15, 2019, release.
