Rohit Shetty is one of the most profitable directors; most of his films have gone on to rake in moolah at the box office. 2017 was a pretty dull year for the box office but it was Shetty’s Golmaal Again that brought some solace to the industry by fetching Rs 200 crore. Now, the director is collaborating with Ranveer Singh in Simmba and is hoping that it outperforms his previous hit. Speaking at a media interaction, Shetty said that his action-comedy will project Ranveer in a new light.
Shetty said, “Ranveer is a fabulous new-age actor. With this film, he will be able to display his range as a commercial star. Simmba is his biggest out-and-out masala film and I have full faith in it.” Shetty whose films are commercially successful usually gets flak for his wafer-thin plots. His Simmba is also a remake of the Telugu hit Temper that released in 2015. However, Shetty asserted that he has added his signature touch to the film and said, “Though the movie is based on Temper, there are merely a few plot points which are similar. It's an entirely new story. It is my best-written film till date."
Shetty also defended the trend of remakes and said that reimagining a yesteryear film does not mean a lack of creativity but rather a way to tell a good story to a younger audience. He said, “Mother India was remade from something that Mehboob saab had written before. There's no harm in creating remakes as the younger generation has probably not caught up with those old films."
Simmba is slated for a December 28 release. It also stars Sara Ali Khan.
