The #MeToo Movement that started in Hollywood last year and gave strength to many women to come out and talk about being harassed and abused has finally come to Bollywood through Tanushree Dutta’s sexual harassment allegations levied on Nana Patekar. The actress has accused the actor of harassing and intimidating her on the sets of the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleasss. While she has garnered immense support and appreciation from some celebrities, Pooja Bhatt today also applauded her for speaking out.
Pooja was speaking at the India Today Conclave East 2018 and she vehemently supported the need for women to open up and speak about sexual harassment in Bollywood and reiterated the fact that how important it is to speak up. Talking about the Tanushree-Nana controversy she said, “There have been a set of people who have said that Nana is a thorough gentleman, others have said that he is a bully. But what I detest is that people are silencing Tanushree. She should be allowed to speak up. If you are sure about your truth, you need to go to the court. For every bully out there, someone needs to stand up for them.”
She further said, “Everyone has their reasons for speaking up and not speaking up. For some people it is therapeutic, for some, it is to air their frustration. But are you willing to speak the truth that shakes everything at workplace and homes? I'm appalled that people are asking why she is speaking up 10 years later."
Tanushree has garnered support from quite a few celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Freida Pinto, Farhan Akhtar, Anushka Sharma, Richa Chadha, Swara Bhasker, Sonam Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, Renuka Shahane and others. Her allegations have also been corroborated by a senior journalist and the assistant director of the film Horn Ok Pleasss who were eyewitnesses to the entire incident.
