TV producer and writer Vinta Nanda also joined the #MeToo movement going on in India by accusing actor Alok Nath of sexual harassment and rape. Her Facebook post soon went viral and the lead actress of television serial Tara, Navneet Nishan also joined the fray accusing Nath of misbehaviour and harassment that went on for a period of four years. News also surfaced that Navneet had sued Nath for Rs 1 crore in 1994.
In a statement given to a news channel, Navneet corroborated Vinta’s statement accusing Nath of sexual misconduct. Navneet said that she supports every man and woman who is standing up for themselves in the #MeToo movement and said, “I dealt with the four-year harassment by slapping the man in question, and it is done and dusted. I suffered the loss of the show and was further shamed by the man through media and I endured that."

Tara was a hugely successful television serial that was conceptualized and written by Vinta. It had Navneet and Alok as the lead characters and portrayed them as lovers. The show was path-breaking as it showed the trials and tribulations of an urban career woman. It was also the first show on Indian television to have completed five years of its run.

Issues cropped up between Nath and Nishan after a supposed fight between the latter and the former’s wife Ashu Nath who was the costume designer of the serial, after which Alok called Nishan as a drug user in an interview. Nishan on her part refused to act with him and described him as an “alcoholic fool.”

Nanda who took to Facebook to name Nath as a sexual offender revealed that he used to harass Nishan and was after her. She wrote in her post, “He was after my lead girl. She was not interested in him. He was alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of that decade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour, but many of the guys would egg him on to be his worst. My lead female actor was being harassed by him."
Nath has been issued a show cause notice by CINTAA over the allegations.
