After allegations of sexual harassment and rape by writer-producer Vinta Nanda almost 20 years ago, veteran actor Alok Nath decided to take a legal route and has filed a defamation case against her in the Andheri court on Friday. His wife Ashu Nath has also asked the Amboli police to investigate the allegations of rape leveled against her husband. Reportedly, the application seeks investigation of the matter as per Code of Criminal Procedure 155 & under 499, 500, 34 & 114 Indian Penal Code.
Alok Nath's lawyer Ashok Saraogi further confirmed the news that a complaint has been filed by Alok's wife Ashu stating that if Vinta has claimed that she has been raped by her husband, then what evidence she has, and on what basis she has been making the accusations. She has thus demanded police investigation of Vinta's action against them in this entire case. Apart from the defamation case, Alok has also filed a petition regarding the criminal case in the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Mumbai.
Meanwhile, a report in a leading daily further suggests that the couple is also likely to file a separate defamation suit today seeking Rs 1 as compensation. The defamation complaint comes after a week of Vinta shared her ordeal through a Facebook post. "I hadn't just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised," she wrote in reference to the most 'sanskaari' person in Bollywood.
Apart from her, actors Deepika Amin and Sandhya Mridul also shared their traumatic accounts of being harassed by Alok. Meanwhile, Renuka Shahne and Himani Shivpuri claimed that his predatory behaviour on sets was an open secret in the industry.
