It is not my interpretation of history but what happened then: Karan Johar on Takht

Karan Johar is gung-ho about his upcoming directorial venture, the muti-starrer period drama Takht. It is based on a true historical account and the filmmaker says that it will not be his interpretation of history but will be treated with respect and dignity with facts and figures.

During a media interaction, Karan spoke about his magnum opus and said, “The film is based on a true historical event that transpired. It is embedded in history and that is why it is important to tell the way it was.”

Keeping in mind the controversy that Sanjay Leela Bhansali faced because of his film Padmaavat, Karan was asked that isn’t history a risky genre to explore. To this, the ace filmmaker said, “It is not my interpretation of history but what happened then. The story is based on the Mughal Empire and what people know. Every writer and director has their interpretation of history, but in this case, we are not creating anything. It is based on the historical facts and we are doing it with a lot of dignity.”
