I lied, cheated, deceived, was a kameena, I treated women badly in my 20s: Sajid Khan

At a time when the entire Bollywood industry is grappling with the #MeToo allegations which are costing even the big names their jobs and their film projects, many A-lister has come forward to lend their support to the movement and encouraged and applauded the survivors for sharing their account without fearing the powerful. Of the many men who have been named in the #MeToo movement, Sajid Khan’s name is one of the most prominent ones as he is accused by not one but four women- a journalist, a former assistant, and two actors.

Sajid’s former colleagues Dia Mirza and Bipasha Basu too have shared how he used to pass sexist comments and lewd jokes on the sets of the films they worked with him on. The remarks were so crass that they eventually cut ties with the films. Bipasha, in fact, had refused to promote the film Humshakals because of Sajid’s behaviour. Now, an old throwback interview has surfaced on the internet which has gone viral where Sajid accepts that he used to treat girls and women badly when he was in his twenties.

In the interview, he says, “I have been in and out of so many relationships that I have learnt.. I was a big dog in my 20s.. bada kameena aadmi tha…” He goes on to add, “I have broken a lot of hearts. I have lied, I have cheated, I have deceived, like most of the guys do.. but I was on television, I was getting successful, I was getting brashier. I was treating women very badly….All the nice girls in my life I have treated badly in my 20s.”

He further added that while in his 20s he treated women badly, in his 30s he began to concentrate on his films. He said. “I started concentrating on filmmaking and when you start making films you don't mentally start getting very attracted to women - doesn't mean that you get attracted to men. You only start thinking about your films - it becomes a big responsibility and I am sure every filmmaker will agree with me.”

However, he goes on to say that he is happy in his 40s and when people ask him he misses someone he happily says no. Sajid said “Becuase the very person that you miss in your life to fill in the void is the very person you want to miss after three months - ki yaar, kab jaayegi ye.” Sajid has stepped down from his forthcoming film Housefull 4 and has issued a statement about the sexual allegations levied against him.
