#MeToo: Ira Trivedi sends legal notice to Chetan Bhagat, says he tried to malign her image

Author Ira Trivedi has sent a legal notice to Chetan Bhagat after he shared a screenshot of an email purportedly sent to him by her in which she allegedly signed off as “Miss u kiss u”, reports a leading news channel. Ira, who accused Chetan of sexual harassment, told the channel that he attempted to “malign her image” by sharing incomplete screenshots of their mail trail.

While speaking to the channel, Ira said that Chetan had apologized to her after she had leveled allegations against him, saying that he will never behave inappropriately with her again, following which she had decided to forgive him.

Ever since Chetan released the image of the mail, Ira has been censured mercilessly by the internet while she condemned him for refraining from sharing the complete conversation. "I realised that I made a mistake, I ended it in a hurry and did not mention in the salutation,” Ira told the channel.

Here’s the tweet that Chetan had posted:

Earlier in October, Ira, in a column for a leading magazine, narrated her story as she called out Bhagat and Suhel Seth. She accused Bhagat of misbehaving with her as he allegedly “forcibly tried to kiss her”, adding that he “groped” her friend as well on a moving bus abroad.

Furthermore, Bhagat condemned Ira’s “attack” as fake and censured Ira apart from asking his followers to refrain from supporting “this smear campaign”. For those unaware of the context here, Bhagat was referring to the #MeToo movement that has encompassed the country since the last month.

Bhagat is best known for his books Five Point Someone and The 3 Mistakes Of My Life.
