Rumours were rife earlier this year that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has signed filmmaker Shree Narayan Singh’s surrogacy drama Jasmine. However, in May, the actress clarified that she had asked the makers to "take it for a rewrite" after the script was narrated to her. And now as per a report in a leading daily, Aishwarya has finally taken a call on the project and has turned it down completely.
A daily quoted a source as saying, "Aishwarya has turned down Jasmine. There were several loopholes in the script. Although Siddharth and Garima’s basic idea was strong, there were many problems with the story, which the actress had reportedly pointed out to the writer duo. After the corrections, they approached her with a fresh script, but Ash still felt she couldn’t relate to it." Hence, it is believed that the actress politely informed the film's team that she won’t be able to take on the project.
Meanwhile Shree, who had recently stated that "things were going downhill from the start", has backed out of the project as well. Confirming that he will not be producing Jasmine anymore, he told the daily, "The film should have gone on floors by now. But Siddharth and Garima, too, had other commitments to complete. So, I will not be able to tell you when it will start. It’s currently on hold." Now with both Aishwarya and Shree pulling out of the film, it looks like the film has been indefinitely pushed.
For the uninitiated, Jasmine was expected be tell the real-life story of a woman in Gujarat who doesn't want to have children but agrees to become a surrogate mother for someone else.
