After a long-drawn battle with the Censor Board that lasted almost two years, Sunny Deol’s and Sakshi Tanwar’s upcoming film Mohalla Assi is slated to hit the theatres on November 16. Now ahead of its release, the makers have unveiled the trailer of the film and we must say, Sunny Deol steals the show in this tale of religion and politics.
The trailer follows the story of Dharmnath Pandey (Sunny), a Sanskrit teacher who sits on the Assi Ghat as he attends pilgrims during the day. It further depicts the struggles of a man with stringent religious beliefs, who finds himself amidst the changing times of globalization, foreign tourism and communal clashes. Set against the backdrop of the Ram Mandir controversy, the trailer of Chandraprakash Dwivedi directorial also dissects the politically-charged events that transpired between 1990 and 1998 after the implementation of the Mandal Commission.
To say the least, the film seems of to be hard-hitting satire on the commercialisation of the pilgrimage city and we cannot wait to see it on celluloid.
