Varun Dhawan’s Badlapur that was directed by Sriram Raghavan was much appreciated for its storyline, plot twists and acting. After its success, there was talk in the trade about a sequel being helmed. While there was no confirmation from either the director or the producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films, the speculation about the film has not died down even three years after the film’s release. However, now Raghavan has confirmed that the second installment of Badlapur is in the works.
Sriram told a trade portal, “Badlapur was a powerful sort of story. When Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films said let’s do a part two, we were sure it would not be a sequel to this film. This film would not continue. That story ends there. We thought if we get another story touching upon the aspect of revenge but yet something different, we could call it Badlapur 2. As a producer, he could use it as a franchise."

He further added, "But as a director, why would I call it Badlapur unless it had a story that is as good as or better than the first one? We have discussed a couple of stories but until we find a story that excites the producer and excites us, we will not go ahead. But it is still on the cards simply because it is a very catchy title.”
