The fact that Deepika Padukone decided to make a career in films is a boon for her fans but for her father, badminton player Prakash Padukone, it was extremely difficult to accept her shift to Mumbai, he said at an event while speaking to an eminent journalist. Mr Padukone was concerned considering the fact that his daughter was not only moving to a new city but also a new field.
"It was extremely difficult for us. We were very nervous because she was not even 18. She didn't have a place to stay. She was moving into a new field. At that time we felt she was too young to move out. But now when I look back, I think she did the right thing. Because in that profession, you need to start early," Mr Padukone said, reports a leading website.

As far as Deepika is concerned, she admitted that she was excited about moving to Mumbai initially but realised later that it was a big decision.
"It was very, very exciting. Today, when I think about the decision that I made when I was 18, I sometimes have that moment when I think 'Wow. How did I even make that decision and how did I not realise that how big decision it was at that time. But at that time, it was very easy," Deepika said, adding that she was aware of the fact that her parents were worried about her but she desired to make it big in life, and she certainly did.

"I am sure they had sleepless nights then but I think I was extremely focussed. I knew exactly where I wanted to be," Deepika added.
Deepika made her debut with Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 and subsequently starred in the films Cocktail, Love Aaj Kal, Chennai Express, Tamasha, Piku and Bajirao Mastani. She was last seen in Padmaavat.
