Veteran actor Anupam Kher quit as the Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune on October 30, a year after his appointment, citing his international assignments as the reason. In a statement that has been made available on his official account on Twitter, Mr. Kher said that it has been a privilege for him to serve at FTII but considering his work commitments, it will be difficult for him to continue working at the institute.
"It has been an honour, a privilege and a great learning experience to be the Chairman of the prestigious FTII. But because of my international assignments, I won't have much time to devote at the institute. Hence decided to send my resignation," Mr. Kher said in a letter addressed to the Information & Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore.

He also requested the Ministry to scout for someone suitable for the post during his notice period.

Mr. Kher is currently busy filming New Amsterdam – an American television show, in New York, reports a leading news website. The 63-year-old actor has been cast as a neurosurgeon in the series, co-starring Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims and Tyler Labine.
As far as his work in the Hindi film industry is concerned, Mr. Kher will appear in The Accidental Prime Minister, based on Sanjay Baru’s 2014 book.
Mr. Kher was appointed as the Chairman of FTII in October 2017 as he succeeded controversial actor Gajendra Chauhan for the post.
