The Bar Council of Delhi has issued a legal notice to veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan for wearing a lawyer’s attire in an advertisement for a spice brand. The company, YouTube and a media house have also been served notices for failing to take due precautions and hence, have been considered liable for legal action for telecasting the advertisement without any authority.
As per a leading news agency, the notice reads as, "You (the actor and others) have failed to take due precaution before using the lawyers’ attire for advertisement and are liable for legal action for telecasting the advertisement without any authority. You are required to immediately stop all such advertisements and also give an undertaking to the Bar Council of Delhi, Bar Council of India and other states Bar Councils that the lawyers’ attire shall not be used in any advertisement in future."
Reportedly, the Bar Council has also asked them to furnish an undertaking in 10 days, failing which further action will be initiated.
For the unversed, the commercial features Big B in a lawyer's suit at what appears to be a dressing room. Moving forward in the ad, two junior artists enter and offer him pav bhaji and the actor praises the dish, thereby endorsing the spices brand.
Meanwhile, this isn't the first time senior Bachchan has got himself into trouble for an advertisement. Earlier too, a jewellery advertisement featuring him and his daughter Shweta Bachchan had to be taken down after the banking community threatened to take legal action against them.
