IFFI 2018: Varun Dhawan says he would have given his ‘right hand to be launched’ by Anurag Kashyap

Varun Dhawan starred in several comedy dramas such as Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2 but the actor, during a session at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji on November 25, revealed that he always intended to work in gritty films. In fact, Varun added that he would have even given up on his right hand to be launched by Anurag Kashyap.

"Initially my leaning was always towards the left side. I had loved Black Friday, Sriram Raghavan's films... I was leaning over there. I would have probably given my right hand at that time to be launched by Anurag Kashyap. Honestly," Varun said during the session at IFFI.

Anurag Kashyap is known for making dark films such as Dev.D, Gangs of Wasseypur and Raman Raghav 2.0. As far as Sriram Raghavan is concerned, Varun did work with him in 2015’s Badlapur. However, Varun’s dad, filmmaker David Dhawan, who also attended the session, wasn’t quite impressed with his son’s decision to star in Badlapur.

"I saw he had grown a beard for the character, he didn't used to laugh, he didn't use to talk for 20 days. So I asked my wife 'when will he cut his beard?' I didn't know what he was doing. But thought, 'Chalo, achhi hee banegi’. I saw the film. Sriram showed me twice and I loved the film. I said, 'It's a revenge story, it's a Hindustani (Indian) film',” David Dhawan added.

Badlapur performed well at the box office while Varun was appraised for his role by critics also. Last seen in Sui Dhaaga, Varun will appear next in Kalank.
