The Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan starrer Kal Ho Na Ho, produced by Karan Johar and directed by Nikhil Advani, was released 15 years ago today. Following the story of an introvert Naina, the film became forever associated with Preity because of the iconic character she played. But despite her not being the first choice for the role, Kal Ho Na Ho etched a permanent place in the actress' heart.
For the unversed, the film was first offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan but it came to Preity after she rejected it. Ironically, Preity was offered the role of Geet in Jab We Met, a role that she declined but proved to be a turning point in Kareena's career.
Now on the occasion of the film clocking 15 years, Preity told a leading news agency that she has a 'karmic connection' with Kareena by stating, "We both are in very good karma with each other because she said no to Kal Ho Na Ho and I said no to Jab We Met, both of them are iconic and career defining films. People tell me they liked me a lot in Kal Ho Na Ho and I think she did a wonderful job as Geet."
Futher recalled her bonding with KJo and his father Yash Johar, she added, "It was one of those films that filled me with joy but it broke our hearts as well. It was a roller coaster ride. It is a timeless film. I am fortunate that I was a part of it."
Meanwhile, Karan shared an emotional message on social media stating that this film is very close to his father since it was his father’s last release before he passed away.
