After their crackling chemistry in Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar are all set to star in Bala. Amar Kaushik, who last helmed off-beat horror-comedy Stree, will direct the project which will have Ayushmann playing the role of a balding man. Bhumi, on the other hand will be seen essaying the role of a small town girl with dusky complexion trying to find her ground in fair-skin obsessed society.
As per a leading daily, Dinesh Vijan, the Producer of the project stated, "Through their journey, the film impresses on the fact that most of us are usually attracted to outward beauty and don't go beyond that to understand the real person. That's one of the reasons so many relationships are falling apart today." He added that the plot of the film is hilarious but it will also nudge people to think.

But what’s with the name Bala? “It's his (Ayushmann’s) nickname really but I thought it was an apt title. It is also a tongue-in-cheek pun on his life story. Bal-Aa-Aaa-Aaa," he reportedly told the leading daily. The film is set to roll in March and will have a September release as per reports.
