PeepingMoon.com caught the trailer of Emraan Hashmi’s Republic Day 2019 release, director Soumik Sen’s Cheat India. The actor also makes his debut as a producer in this education system crime drama by coming on board with Ellipsis Entertainment and T-Series to coproduce Cheat India.
He deals in money. His tagline is ‘Nakal mein hi akal hai!’ Is he a fraudster or a fixer or both? The visually impressive poster of the film, shot by ace photographer and Ellipsis Entertainment partner Atul Kasbekar, and the trailer itself hint that Hashmi’s character Rakesh Singh takes advantage of major controversial issues in the country’s education system.
But is he out to solve them by teaching the corrupt system a lesson? Or is Rakesh making a quick buck himself because he is shown with suitcases full of money after interacting with students and their admission forms? Certainly, Hashmi’s character is grey, his office is adorned with wall-to-wall images of deities but his safe is full of money. The actor himself is of the opinion that every film need not have a message as long as it triggers change in us. For him, as an actor and a producer, the rot in the education system was a relevant and challenging subject.

An Ellipsis Entertainment source said, “Hashmi’s character makes it easy for students to get into the academy of their choice. All this can be done for a price, of course, because he is a fixer! He gets smarter students to pose as the prospective students and take the exam in their stead. He takes a lot of pride in his innovative way of defrauding the education system.”

The film’s trailer will be released tomorrow. Look out for the first look of model Shreya Dhanwanthary who makes her Bollywood debut with Cheat India. You would have seen her in jewelry ads for D’damas and Gitanjali and wearing design wear for Provogue and Pantaloons. Shreya is aware that Cheat India is topical and that the film makes compelling and engaging viewing. But the debutante believes that the film, which exposes the malpractices of our education system, should be an eye-opener to parents as much as students.
