Karan Johar is all geared up for his upcoming directorial venture, the muti-starrer period drama Takht. Set against the backdrop of the Mughal Era, the film features an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. And as expected, the audience is looking forward to KJo's interpretation of a period drama.
But ever since Takht has been announced, there has been a constant comparison of the film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opuses like Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018). When Karan was questioned about the same during an interview with a leading daily, he quipped that it’s unfair to draw such parallels. "Many people were shocked when they heard I was doing a period film. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they should compare me with Sanjay. He’s a master of the craft and I hope the audience enjoys my period film just as much," he asserted.

Furthermore, Karan mentioned that he is often not acknowledged for the ‘different cinema’ that he offers and is considered to only make movies about rich people and first-world problems. Talking about that, the filmmaker said, "The idea is to take myself out of my comfort zone. I have tried to do that even with the short films I’ve helmed and the topics that I’ve addressed as a filmmaker. But somehow, I never get credit for such things... So, I’m doing Takht thinking, 'Maine kuchh naya nahin kiya hai’. But I hope to prove people wrong with it."
Well, we certainly cannot wait for it.
The multi-starrer Takht is slated to release in the 2020.
