People call us friends, but I’m still scared of Ajay who is like an elder brother: Rohit Shetty

Rohit Shetty is looking forward to the release of his upcoming directorial Simmba starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the lead. The film is a cop drama in which Ranveer is essaying the role of a police officer named Sangram Bhalerao. Rohit embarked on the film franchise Singham that had Ajay Devgn in the lead and playing a cop. The film became a resounding success and now the popular film franchise has also been incorporated in an animated series. The film Singham was a landmark of sorts for both Rohit and Ajay as with this the director came out of his comfort zone of directing comedy films which he had done earlier and Ajay once again took up the action hero avatar which he had debuted with, in Phool aur Kaante.

Rohit has predominantly worked with Ajay in his career. So during an interview, the director opened up about his bond with the senior actor. He was asked to define his 28-year bond with Ajay. Rohit said, “People call us friends, but I’m still scared of Ajay, who is like an elder brother. You will never see me walking with my arm around his shoulder. I respect him too much. When approaching him for Simmba, I told him I wanted him to make an extended cameo as Bajirao Singham. He just nodded, “I’m there with you, go ahead.”

During the course of the interview, Rohit also spoke about the wedding of Ranveer and Deepika and whether the hype surrounding it has helped Simmba or not. He said, “Ranveer is fed up of answering questions about his wedding. All these things don’t help the film; the hype is created by the trailer and music. A wedding is personal.” He was also asked whether he would like to bring Deepika and Ranveer together in a film as he has worked with both of them previously. To this, the director said, “I decide on the casting after finishing the script. If I get the right script, why not?”

Simmba is releasing on December 28, 2018.
