Vikrant Massey to feature opposite Deepika Padukone in Meghna Gulzar’s next on acid attack survivor; film titled Chhapaak

PeepingMoon.com was the first one to inform you that Deepika Padukone, who has away from the silver screen post Padmaavat, has finally given her nod to Raazi director Meghna Gulzar’s next project on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. In fact, she will not only star in the film but will be co-producing the film as well. And now we hear that actor Vikrant Massey has been roped opposite Deepika to essay the role of Laxmi’s former partner, Alok Dixit.

Confirming that Vikrant is on board, Meghna revealed details about his character to a leading daily, "Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part." Well, we can’t wait to see two powerhouse performers on the screen together.

The director further disclosed the film's title as Chhapaak, which means the sound of splash. Reportedly, they were also Gandhak, the Hindi word for sulphuric acid. However, the first one "resonated with everyone I bounced it off as it conveys that the film is about acid violence almost immediately and quite effortlessly," Meghna was quoted as saying.

She further asserted that prosthetics tests are underway and during the research for the film, the only person who came to her mind to play the lead role was Deepika. Meanwhile, the film is expected to go on the floors in the third week of March and will be primarily shot in Mumbai and Delhi.
