After a long time, Aamir Khan faced a disappointment this Diwali with his film Thugs of Hindostan not being well received by the audience and failing to light up the box office. However, the actor has accepted the failure and moved on to his next ambitious project Mahabharata. Aamir had been toying with the idea since ages but now Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed that the former is indeed making efforts to revive and launch the project.
During a chat with a leading daily, SRK even revealed the role he would like to play in the epic. He said that he would like to play, “Krishna form Mahabharata”. However, he went on to reveal that the role has been earmarked for Aamir. He said, “Krishna from Mahabharata has already been taken by Aamir so I will not be able to do that.”

According to media reports Mahabharata was supposed to be made on a huge budget of Rs 1000 crore but will now be made as a seven-part web series. Writer Anjum Rajabali who had approached Aamir for the astronaut Rakesh Sharma biopic confirmed that the actor is tied up with Mahabharata and hence passed on the role to Shah Rukh. He said, “Frankly, I was very keen that Aamir should do the film. He liked the script, we discussed it a lot and we had a lot of hopes about it. Unfortunately, Aamir is consumed with a larger sort of project called Mahabharata.”
Apparently, Deepika Padukone was offered the role of Draupadi in the series but the actress declined to take up the offer.
