The trailer of Thackeray, a biopic on late Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackaray, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role, has been released and it’s impressive. Nawazuddin’s resemblance to Bal Thackaray is actually uncanny as he looks exactly like the controversial leader in the film.
The biopic narrates Bal Thackaray’s journey and his political career as he established Shiv Sena - a Hindu right-wing Marathi ethnocentric party. Bal Thackaray was immensely popular amongst his followers, particularly in Maharashtra as he espoused the rights of the Marathas in his state.

A particular scene also depicts Thackaray’s conversation with Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, whose character exclaims in the trailer, “Aap kehte ho ki Maharashtra sirf Marathi logon ke liye hai,” while the Shiv Sena leader responds by saying, “Main jabhi bhi kehta hoon ke Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra – Jai Hind pehle kehta hoon kyunki mere liye mera desh pehle, rajya baad mein.”
Thackeray also mentions references to the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the Shiv Sena leader’s alleged involvement in the riots in Mumbai. The film is loaded with intense dialogues – for example, “Bheekh maangne se achcha hai, gunda banke apna haq chheenna.”
