Respect means equality: Shah Rukh Khan opens up on #MeToo and the advice he gives his son Aryan

In wake of the #MeToo movement, which was ignited by Tanushree Dutta, several celebrities of the Indian film fraternity, including Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Suhel Seth, Sajid Khan and others, were named and shamed by their sexual perpetrators. While several A-listers came out in support of the movement, it was Bollywood's baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, who finally clarified his stance and revealed the advice he would give to anyone about navigating relationships between the sexes.

Maintaining that "respect means equality", SRK told a leading daily, "Three things: Respect, respect, and respect. I really believe that. Some of my women friends, whom I have known for years, find me too formal at times. But there is no romance and love without respect. Respect means equality, and I don’t mean the social media’s #equality. To me, equality is letting you know how weak I am, equality is asking you, can you take care of me? This is what I’ve done with my wife, and my women friends because I genuinely love them."

The Zero actor further revealed that he teaches his 21-year-old son Aryan Khan that disrespecting a person is not okay. "I’m talking about basic respect. I’ve been married for 30 years — I’ve never looked into my wife’s purse. I still knock on the bedroom door if she’s changing; I knock on my daughter’s bedroom door. They know it’s me, but this is their space," he added.

Well, we could not agree more with SRK and we hope men learn to respect a woman unconditionally.
