I was 16-years-old when I filed my first FIR for sexual assault, says Kangana Ranaut during Manikarnika Tamil trailer launch event

Kangana’s upcoming film Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi is all set for its big release on January 25. The film is based on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The film has been a part of many controversies and trouble but Kangana has handled every situation single-handedly and with much maturity.

Recently the actress was in Hyderabad to promote her film where she spoke about how she was assaulted at the age of 16. “I was 16-years-old when I filed my first FIR for sexual assault so there are people who can stand up for themselves, they shouldn’t be discouraged”, said Ranaut.

She further added, “Empowerment who need, they should be empowered but not necessarily everyone needs. Some people can give empowerment also. Some people are givers, the ones who can be encouraged to give strength, and people who are working with NGOs.” Kangana added.

The actress then flew to Chennai to launch the Tamil trailer of her film where she spoke about how films like Manikarnika are not made anymore. She said. "In my 12 years of career, I never got to do a film like this. I don't think we make these kind of movies. Shows how indulgent we are. We have tried to keep the history as precise as possible. Like how Indians don't support Indians. When I signed this film my first thought was 'How come nobody has done a film on Jhansi ki Rani yet?' So, I consider it a stroke of luck that I’m doing it. Rani Laxmi Bai was known for her rebellious attitude."

"Was I able to relate to her character? Naturally, as a woman, she had gone through a lot. She got married when she was 15 or so. She was a true patriot who wanted her country to flourish. It’s an honour to be able to pay a tribute to her through our upcoming film Manikarnika," the actress added.

Kangana is currently busy with the film promotions and is often seen heading out to different cities to root for her film.
