Sooryavanshi: Title of Rohit Shetty's film with Akshay Kumar reportedly inspired by Salman Khan's 1992 film

Director Rohit Shetty is collaborating with Akshay Kumar on his next film Sooryavanshi while the story behind the title of the project is quite interesting. Rohit, inspired by the title of Salman Khan's 1992 film Suryavanshi, acquired the name of his film from producer Vijay Galani, a leading daily reports.

Sources told the daily that Vijay wasn't keen on parting with the title of his film initially but agreed to do so after filmmaker Boney Kapoor's intervention. Rohit, though, has changed the spelling of the name of his film from Suryavanshi to Sooryavanshi.

“Initially, Vijay was reluctant to part with the title. However, he agreed after Boney Kapoor was roped in to discuss and reason with him to be open-minded and accommodating of a younger colleague in the fraternity, that he agreed. It’s another thing that Rohit is spelling his film as Sooryavanshi and not Suryavanshi," the daily quoted a source as saying.

Akshay has been cast as ATS Chief Veer Sooryavanshi in Rohit's film, which is expected to begin filming in April in Mumbai. “Whether it’s getting inspired by a classic; as in the case of Bol Bachchan, for which he reportedly acquired the rights of Golmaal (1979), or a title, as in the case of Suryavanshi for his own movie, Rohit has always ensured he gets the legal right before commencing on his movie concerned,” the source added.

Rohit, however, hasn't confirmed the female lead as yet while reports suggest that Sooryavanshi will release on December 27, 2019.

At the moment, Rohit is basking in the glory of the success of his new film Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh as cop Sangram Bhalerao. Simmba released on December 28 and has been received well by critics. The film emerged as a commercial success as well since it earned over Rs 150 crore within a week of its release.

Rohit Shetty is best known for directing the Golmaal series and Chennai Express apart from Simmba. Akshay's upcoming releases include Kesari, Good News, Mission Mangal and Housefull 4.
