Zoya Akhtar’s directorial Gully Boy’s teaser offered the first glimpses of Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh together and their fresh pairing is loved by the audience. Gully Boy is said to be based on the life of Indian rapper Divine and sees Ranveer as the struggling rapper who hails from Mumbai slums. The film’s trailer is all set to release tomorrow and the film buffs are eagerly waiting for it. Today, Zoya in an interview said that the film was written with just Ranveer and Alia in mind.
Talking about her leading actors, Zoya said, “I am sure a lot of people want to pair Alia and Ranveer. We wrote the part with Alia in mind and Ranveer in mind. So there was no question and we loved that they both said 'yes'.” Gully Boy has already generated a lot of interest for its storyline and several Indian rappers have given a shoutout to the film. Talking about the film, Zoya said in the interview, “I like the genre of music, I like the idea of coming-of-age on a sense and it's an underdog story. It's the story about a boy... so everything attracted me to it, every single thing. And it's a story about my city and Mumbai is a very special place."
The teaser of the film has got a lot of applause from everyone for the angst, the trials, the happiness and the freedom the city of Mumbai provides. Talking about the city, Zoya said, “It's one place where I honestly believe that anything can happen. Like you can go this way and be up there and you can go that way and fall down. You can literally feel the heat around the corner and this place is magic. If you sit here and all of it put together, it's just very exciting, I just couldn't resist."
Gully Boy also stars Kalki Koechlin and is all set to hit the screens on February 14. The film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their production banner Excel Films.
