Ranbir Kapoor and I need to take forward the work of our seniors, asserts Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh kickstarted the last year with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, and ended it with a bang with Rohit Shetty's masala entertainer Simmba. The film not only impressed the audience and critics alike but raked in moolah at the box-office in its first week itself, having enjoyed the opening weekend collection of over Rs 75 crore. What's more? Simmba is inching towards the 200-crore mark and of course, Ranveer is enjoying the high of his recent success.

Well, it would not be wrong to say that such opening numbers were earlier only enjoyed by the Bollywood's trio - Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan. When Ranveer was asked to comment on it, he told a leading daily, "It's critical for Hindi film business that the newer generation of stars like Ranbir [Kapoor] and I take forward the work that our seniors have put in. They have built the eco-system of the business, and it's heartening to see our efforts paying off. Our numbers are respectable so far."

He further revealed that it is Simmba’s success that has made the makers envision a cop universe, with Simmba, Singham and Sooryavanshi leading it. Terming the month gone by as "decisive December", Ranveer asserted, "One can only fathom what will happen when the worlds of Simmba, Singham and Sooryavanshi [Shetty's next featuring Akshay Kumar] merge. There is no one better suited than Rohit to handle a film of this magnitude.”

Well, we couldn’t agree more!

On the work front, Ranveer will next be seen in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy alongside Alia Bhatt apart from starring in Kapil Dev biopic ‘83, directed by Kabir Khan.
