I'm alive today because of Bal Thackeray, says Amitabh Bachchan

Ahead of the release of the biopic on Bal Thackeray, Amitabh Bachchan explained how the Shiv Sena Supremo had played an important role in saving his life after his accident on the sets of his 1983 film Coolie. Recalling the incident during the trailer launch of Thackeray, Big B said that after he was brought to Mumbai from Bengaluru after the accident, no ambulance was available in the Maharashtra capital due to bad weather.

Bal Thackeray, however, ensured that a Shiv Sena ambulance was made available for the injured superstar. “Balasaheb helped me when I needed it most. If it had not been for him, I would not have been alive today. We were very close to each other. I respect him a lot,” Big B had said, a leading website reports.

Moreover, Big B also spoke about the mutual respect they both shared for each other. During the trailer launch, the Piku actor also shared other stories of their friendship. He also said that the Shiv Sena founder treated his wife, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan as a daughter-in-law after Big B's marriage.
