It was reported in January last year that Taapsee Pannu was roped in to play the role of a sharpshooter in Womaniya, to be produced by Anurag Kashyap and helmed by Tushar Hiranandani. Pegged to be a two-heroine project, the makers later apparently roped in Bhumi Pednekar as well for the sports drama.

But now in a recent turn of events, we hear that the project has been put on the backburner due to budgetary constraints, as reported by a leading daily. It seems after the sexual harassment charges levied against co-founder Vikas Bahl and the dissolution of Phantom Films, Anurag has been struggling to keep his individual projects going. Although he had found support in producers Shibasish Sarkar and Nidhi Parmar, the increasing budget of the project has put the filmmaker in difficulty.
The daily quoted a source as saying, "Taapsee and Bhumi were to prep for a month, following which the film was to be shot in Uttar Pradesh. The movie required antique weapons that were proving to be expensive. The makers were breaching the budget. Also, given the indefinite delay, the actors eventually moved on to other projects. It will be tough to reschedule their dates now."

Now what fate does the film has to face in the coming time, is still left to be seen.
For the unversed, Womaniya was said to be inspired by the real-life success stories of several women professional shooters but will be largely based on octogenarian sharpshooters, Chandro and Prakashi.
