Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the most talented and hardworking actors in Bollywood. The actor tries to bring in a change with a series of social films which he does. With films such as Toliet: Ek Prem Katha, Rustom, Gold, and Gabbar is Back, the actor has garnered appreciation from audience and critics alike. One such hit film of Akshay was R. Balki's PadMan that released last year. Made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, the film was not critically acclaimed, but it went on to become a massive hit at the box-office. The film was based on Twinkle Khanna's book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad and explored menstrual periods as a taboo in our country.
As the release of PadMan completed a year today, the actor took to his social media account to share a photo of himself holding a sanitary pad. He captioned it, "A film which literally made me step out of my comfort zone but I’d do it again without batting an eyelid if it helped further the cause of menstrual hygiene."

Akshay's character in PadMan was based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist hailing from Tamil Nadu who made low-cost sanitary pads available for women in rural India.
