Ranveer Singh’s and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy is appealing to everyone at the theatres and the film is poised to become a blockbuster soon. Apart from the two leads the film also stars Kalki Koechlin and debutant Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles. Siddhant who plays rapper MC Sher in the film spoke to a leading daily in an interview and revealed how he was discovered by director Zoya Akhtar.
In the interview, the debutant actor recalled how he was approached by Zoya who had spotted him dancing at the success bash of Inside Edge (an Amazon Prime web series) and advised him to audition for the film. He said, “The film had already started. They were casting for the film, I didn’t know anything about it. Zoya approached me and asked, ‘Who are you?’, I was like, ‘I’m Siddhant’.” Siddhant revealed that Zoya then asked him to audition for Gully Boy and told him to come the very next day after checking out the music of rappers like Divine and Naezy and to memorize a rap song for his audition.

Siddhant in the interview said that when he checked out the music of the rappers, he was “blown away by their talent” but was couldn’t imagine memorizing their song, and that is when he realized that he could relate to a lot of things the rappers were singing about because of his own struggles and ended up writing his own personal rap song for the audition.
He eventually bagged the role as Zoya herself called him up and told him that she is sending the script of the film and if he likes it then he could join the cast. Siddhant’s character in the film is like a mentor to Ranveer’s and is not based on Naezy or Divine but is a combination of several rappers. With his nuanced performance, he has become the new star on the block.
