What a film, Karan Johar said in his review for Gully Boy as he wrote a lengthy note on Instagram, appreciating the cast and crew of the film that has impressed critics and fans ever since it released. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy, “a MASTERPIECE of modern times,” in KJo’s words, casts Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Siddhant Chaturvedi in the pivotal roles.
In his note for Gully Boy, KJo said that Zoya has “weaved a story of aspirations in the underbelly of Mumbai like a bonafide magician”, adding that the song and tagline of the film, Apna Time Aayega has become his life mantra. Describing Gully Boy as a cult classic, KJo said that the film has “possibly the best ensemble of actors we have seen this decade”.

Of Ranveer’s performance, KJo said that he has delivered the “loudest quiet performance oscillating between silence and storm” and Gully Boy, thus, offers a glimpse of his versatility. Alia “explodes like a volcano every time she appears on screen,” Karan said, adding that Siddhant has made a “smashing” debut in the film as MC Sher.

Ever since its release on February 14, Gully Boy has been faring exceptionally well at the box office and has collected Rs 72 crore so far. Gully Boy stars Ranveer Singh as a street rapper from Mumbai and his character is inspired by the life of Indian rappers Naezy aka Naved Shaikh and DIVINE aka Vivian Fernandes.

Alia Bhatt stars as a medical student in Gully Boy and Ranveer’s love interest while Kalki Koechlin appears as an influential musician. The film was received extremely well at its world premiere at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival over the weekend.
