Raj Kumar Barjatya, father of filmmaker and director of Rajshri Productions Sooraj Barjatya, passed away in Mumbai's Sir H. N Reliance Foundation hospital on Thursday. The news was shared on the official Instagram handle of Rajshri Productions. "It is with profound grief that we mourn the loss of Raj Kumar Barjatya, father of Sooraj Barjatya. May his soul Rest in peace," the post read.

Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted the sad news as well, "Terribly shocking news. Shri Rajkumar Barjatya passed away some minutes back at Reliance Hurkissondas Hospital. Can’t believe this."

For the unversed, Raj Kumar Barjatya produced several films like Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (2015), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) and Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) under the banner Rajshri Productions banner. Interestingly, all the aforementioned films were directed by his son Sooraj Barjatya. His last production venture, Hum Chaar, released on February 15, 2019.
Meanwhile, Raj Kumar Barjatya is survived by his wife Sudha Barjatya and son Sooraj Barjatya. The production house Rajshri was founded by Raj Kumar Barjatya's father Tarachand Barjatya, who bankrolled films like Tapasya, Chitchor and Saaransh under his banner.
