Atif Aslam’s song in Notebook to be re-recorded by another singer, confirms director Nitin Kakkar

Filmmaker Nitin Kakkar confirmed that a song from his upcoming film Notebook, the vocals of which were provided by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam, will be re-recorded with a new singer, a leading website reports. Notebook, produced by Salman Khan, will mark the debut of Pranutan Bahl and Zaheer Iqbal.

Pakistani artistes have been banned from working in India after the terror attack in Pulwama on February 14 and Nitin, thus said at the trailer preview of Notebook, that Atif’s song in Notebook will be redone by a “new voice”.

“We have got a new voice. There’s only one song of Atif in the film and we will have to re-do it. We all are Indians and it is unfortunate whatever has happened. But the show must go on as they say,” Nitin said at the event as per the report in the website.

In fact, makers of Notebook also postponed the release of the preview of the trailer following the terror attack in Pulwama. “Nation is always our priority. Country comes first and then other things. Unfortunately, that incident happened and we had to do our bit. We felt it is not the right time to release the trailer. So we held it back,” Nitin added. The trailer of Notebook will release today.

Several film bodies, including the the All Indian Cine Workers Association issued a statement last week, announcing a “total ban” on Pakistani actors and artistes working in the Hindi film industry. Action will be taken against organisations that insist upon working with Pakistani actors and artistes despite the ban.

The terror attack in Pulwama was the worst ever in Jammu and Kashmir since militancy erupted in 1989, as a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed his vehicle packed with explosives into a CRPF bus on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Pulwama district. The attack, much like the one in Uri in 2016, has impacted cultural ties between the two nations.
